Summary/Abstract: This article presents various tools to assess competitiveness in the area of tourism. Rating of international competitiveness of the tourism sector is becoming a key issue of tourism policy. The world now attaches great importance to synthetic multi-indicator indices, increasing the need for such knowledge by different groups of customers. In the paper were presented the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index developed by the World Economic Forum working as a monitoring tool for tourist phenomena in the world and the European Virtual Observatory of Tourism (VTO) – a type of web-based platform designed to coordination support of European tourism. In addition, the build of multi-indicator index of state and changes in Polish tourist economy was described – Vistula Tourism Progressing Index (VIKT). Detailed analysis of indices presented in the paper helped to define the position of Poland in the ranking of tourism competitiveness.
