The PR Elections and Multipartyism in Romania. A Confirmation of M. Duverger’s Theory

Summary/Abstract: This article aims to investigate the relationship between the type of the practiced electoral system and the format of the party system, using the theories voiced by M. Duverger, in order do negate the exceptional character of the postocommunist period in Romania. The analysis leads to the conclusion that, given this perspective, Romania is actually an exemplary case in confirming Duverger’s thesis on the relationship between the proportional electoral system and the multipartyism.
