Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to point out the possibilities of making use of knowledge alliances in creating open innovations. The justification of the undertaken problematic aspects comes from the fact that knowledge acquired from outside of the organisation constitutes a basis for creating innovation. In this connection, one seeks solutions, which will enable collective learning and knowledge transfer. In particular, this happens due to the challenges posed to these organisations. After all, they need to be flexible, collaborative and responsive to changes. The paper is theoretical and empirical in its character: alongside the literature foundation, the paper provides the findings from empirical studies. They were conducted using the analysis of a typical case study. The collaboration and self-education network operating in Poland was purposefully selected as the research object. The accomplishment of research allowed for the identification of the benefits accruing from involvement in knowledge alliances in the context of open innovations. They may be traced in three areas: from the perspectives of the organisation, the employee as well as the collaboration and self-education network.
