Summary/Abstract: The concept of sustainable development at the beginning of the implementation to the practice aroused a number of doubts about the possibility of its operationalization. Critics accused it lack of precise criteria for evaluating projects and the difficulty of measuring the efficiency of implementation. The aim of this article is to analyze whether the projects submitted for the implementation based on the participatory budget contribute to sustainable development on local level. A study conducted in Lodz allowed to draw an optimistic conclusion that participatory budgets, if they are properly rich, become a good tool for implementing sustainable development on local level.
