Application of Coaching Methods to Acquire Social Competence by the Students

Summary/Abstract: This article presents coaching tools that support the acquisition of social skills by students.Coaching includes some tools, that helps making changes in the present way of life or in path of career. They are useful for improving competences and prepares to fulfill new professional roles or the efficient functioning of the existing role. P. Smółka, divides between “coaching specialties”: a. coaching skills, b. coaching effectiveness, c. coaching of personal development (life coaching) – and the two of specialties that means coaching skill and efficiency is defined as favoring the morecomplete fulfillment of existing or new professional roles, and coaching of personal development as a chance for the transformation of the current activity, values and aspirations. Coach does not provide answers, but asks the questions and invites you to explore your own answers. The essence of coaching by J. Whitmore is in the benefits it brings to the customer: “Coaching liberates human potential to maximize their effectiveness” and Whitmore notes, that strengthening awareness and responsibility of the customer is the essence of good coaching. The benefits of coaching, the most frequently mentioned by clients are: the habit of systematic work on yourself, developing self-confidence, strengthening the professional position, resolving interpersonal conflicts, increase clarity of purposes, strengthening the sense of focus and the consistency of thinking, overcoming fears and obstacles in behavior and determining the appropriate hierarchy values.Teaching is not a synonym for coaching, but the tools used in the work of a coach allow students to develop themselves and also to develop the skills called social competences . Social competences in the definition by A. Matczak are complex skills on which depends the effectiveness of dealing with a particular type of social situations, purchased by the individual during the course of social training. Competences such as the ability to see the problem, goal setting , generating options and strategies to solve the problem, verbalization of thoughts and feelings, communication skills including active listening and asking questions – these are the skills that you can expand using the coaching approach. Coach creates a situation by mechanism of modeling – through appropriate targeted questioning it develops thinking and efficiency of students
