Summary/Abstract: Ion Hanzu (1893-1971) was a peasant from Gura Râului and he fought in the First World War in fronts from Poland, Galitia, Italy, Russia and Romania. Ion Hanzu has gathered popular poetry from Gura Râului, he processed folkloric creations in which he presented happenings he lived on various fronts he fought on. This article aims at presenting folkloric poetry gathered by Hanzu and which materializes itself in military grief songs, ballads, outlaws’ songs, ceremony songs, marriage songs, folkloric love songs, patriotic songs, charming and work songs, specific mourning songs and satirical songs. From all these types, we chose to present the military grief songs for the interest they present through their authenticity, seniority and literary value.
