Summary/Abstract: For more than three quarters of a century conflicting paradigms, contradictory interpretations and mutually exclusive theoretical models have separately evolved, actively confronted or abruptly succeeded one other in the vibrant historiographical field of fascist studies, with common ground rarely to be reached. However, in spite of a long-standing tradition of intellectual debate in the course of which even the most basic definitions of the phenomenon could not be agreed upon by any significant margin in the scientific community, the academic landscape appears to have undergone yet another redefining shift in recent years, this time coming closer than ever before to what is commonly referred to nowadays as a “new consensus”.
