Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this study is to identify if and to what extent compilation of the regional tourism satellite account (RTSA) can provide insight into the role of tourism consumption as a driver of economic development. The issue has been discussed from the perspective of the RTSA outcomes for Mazovian voivodeship. The study embraces presentation of the RTSA methodology developed for Poland and available sources of statistical information that can be employed for its compilation. The RTSA for Mazovian voivodeship was the first attempt of its implementation. It has revealed that significant gaps in statistical data make the vast application of the “top down” approach unavoidable. That may result in a biased picture of the regional conditions. Nevertheless the RTSA has provided detailed picture of the tourism consumption contribution to the voivodeship’s economy and the share of particular segments of demand in this process.
