Summary/Abstract: The main scope of supramolecular chemistry are systems consisting of assembled molecular components. In such systems particular molecules are not bonded with the covalence bond. They are mechanically interlocked which is due to existence of a molecular hindrance. This hindrance is a bulky part of one or both molecules constituting the molecular unit. Although the main role in such system play noncovalent interactions the assembling is stable and to dissociate it one of the covalent bonding within one of the system components has to be broken. Exemplary supramolecular assemblies taken into account in this publication are catenanes, rotaxanes and pseudorotaxanes. Those systems constitutes the base to synthesize so-called molecular machines which are told to be the future of new materials production. Exemplary synthesis paths of the assembled molecules as well as mechanism of their operation has been characterized.
