Summary/Abstract: In the geopolitical context, the foundation of the Non – Aligned Movement was crucial in the moment when the Cold War was at its culmination (Cuban crisis in 1962, building of the Berlin Wall in 1961). From today’s perspective it looks that with the creation of the Non – Aligned Movement Tito managed to prevent the economic (and political) coopera-tion between the Eastern Block and Third world countries (mainly former colonies). Few decades later, the Eastern Block economically collapsed. Thanks to his diplomatic activity, the status of Yugoslavia during the period of Cold War was on a high level. Tito was nota-ble for pursuing a foreign policy of neutrality during the Cold War and for establishing close ties with developing countries. Tito's strong belief in self-determination caused early rift with Stalin and consequently, the Eastern Bloc.
