Summary/Abstract: The Smart Grid (SG) – a new idea of energy management is the unarguable direction of the 21st.century electricity grid. Thishowever requires huge capital investments in new technology, infrastructure and ICT solutions. The wide-ranging deployment process of new energy market ideas depends on a number of factors such as: the legal framework, adopted market mechanisms, accessi-ble infrastructure and new ways of distributorclient communication. One of the most important tasks is to change the role of passive energy customers into active prosumers. The customers’ acceptance of new offers and energy market possibilities is a key element for the widespread SG deployment and demands a lot of effort to prepare the proper educational process. The purpose of this article is to present the importance of a coordinated education system based on literature overview, best practices used by utilities advanced in SG solution implementations and the results of a survey done in Lodz Region in 2013.
