Summary/Abstract: The article applies to the innovative day-care provider institution, the operation and development of this form of care over children under the age of 3 in Poland. The aim of the research is to demonstrate that the day-care provider institution is a kind of social innovation and that the creation, development and dissemination of this institution can be placed into the life cycle of social innovations, and the functioning of this solution in Poland shows that it is an implemented, innovative formula of care, which, with its advantages and disadvantages, is an interesting alternative to traditional nursery care. In the article, the institutional and legal approach, as well as, statistical method (quantitative data) was used. The concept of social innovations and the life cycle of social innovations was presented. In the perspective of the life cycle of social innovations, the development of day-care provider institution was presented. Discussing the functioning of this solution in Poland, legal regulation of day-care provider, the implementation of this form of care, as well as, the advantages and disadvantages of this solution were indicated. It was also demonstrated that the day-care provider meets the criteria of social innovation formulated by TEPSIE.
