Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the social activities of Rev. J. Staugaitis at the beginning of the 20th century. Rev. Staugaitis participated in social life mostly in 1905–1906 while living in Marijampolė and establishing societies there. He first formed a kindergarten and the St. Casimir Society to manage it. However, he contributed the most to education, culture and charity by establishing the “Žiburys” (Hearth) society.
