The role and the importance of tourism in economic development of Bitlis province

Summary/Abstract: Tourism activities have been rising and intensifying constantly each all over the World each passing day. The development in tourism causes important effects on communities as well. These effects can mainly be economic, social, cultural and environmental. The social effects of tourism can both be negative and positive. These mentioned effects leads countries, regions, cities and towns to developments. In lights of given information, this study aims to identify the role of tourism in economic development of Bitlis Province of Turkey. In the study interview method of qualitative researches have been applied as data collecting tool. A semi-structured interview form has been composed and implemented to state officials and managers of the tourism facilities all around the city as face to face interviews. According to the findings tourism shines out as an important segment of development in Bitlis. Nevertheless, in order to get the expected profits of tourism, the security problems in the city need to be vanished as a ground condition.
