Summary/Abstract: After the passing away of Bishop Nicolae Ivan, in February 1936, his successor in the episcopal see of Cluj was appointed in late April, in the person of Professor and rector of the Theological Academy in Sibiu, Nicolae Colan. His ordination as bishop was done in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Sibiu on the Pentecost of the same year, May 31. The next day, Nicolae Popoviciu was ordained in the same cathedral, for the episcopal see of Oradea. On June 28, Bishop Nicolae Colan traveled from Sibiu to Cluj by train, in an almost triumphant journey. Clergy and ordinary people, as well as officials welcomed him with great joy and enthusiasm as the train was passing through the main railway stations. Upon his arriving in Cluj, he had a grand reception at the railway, then he was accompanied in a large procession to the cathedral where he attended his first service as bishop (the Vespers). On June 29, he celebrated the Divine Liturgy alongside Metropolitan Nicolae Balan and Bishop Nicolae of Oradea. At the end of the service, the installation was made official by the reading of the Royal Decree and the metropolitan gramata. Thus began the pastoring of the second bishop of Vad, Feleac and Cluj.
