Summary/Abstract: Pekić`s Testament: The Time of Miracles Summary / The function of the biblical subtext in the modernist discourse was highlighted during the interpretation of biblical motives in the novel The Time of Miracles by Borislav Pekić. We explored the status of the narrator, the narrative procedures, the elements of style and also the presence of theological, philosophical and social ideas. Pekić realized the subversion of Christian myth. He only wanted to suggest the idea that consciousness involves the release of archetypes and mythic content. The Bible was transformed in the novel The Time of Miracles by activating the modernist ideas. The transformation is achieved by action of literary self-consciousness in the text. Very important modernist ideas were: the planned intersection of genres, the naturalistic tendencies, the evaluation of subjectivity, the fragmentation of narrative world and the grotesque and the irony as the most common methods of storytelling. The idea of the progress of civilization is possible in the novel The Time of Miracles thanks to the individual who is acquitted of myths.
