Summary/Abstract: A number of places in Silesia belong to the family of the Magdeburg city rights, including Opole. The practicality of this right is viewed as an essential aspect of the great interest of the settlers in the assent of Saxon-Magdeburg law. In the course of the work of the authors on the German-Polish (Early New High German - Old Polish) contrastive word analysis of historical legal terms, basing of the „Magdeburg judgments“, the authors were able to make a conclusion. The combination of legal and settlement historical questions with those of the historical linguistic science can provide particularly noteworthy results in the assessment of settlement and language contact. The reception of Saxon-Magdeburg law left its mark in the linguistic material of the speech community that adopted the legal terms.
