Summary/Abstract: Starting with the western tradition in the field and revealing the successes of the historical semantics in Romanian scientific research, the author is trying to identify several semantic fields in the structure of the annotations on old books from the County of Silvania. While pursuing this, several aspects related to the investigation of these annotations as holographic paratexts are revealed, both at the formularistic level (the rhetorical level), and in their symbolical dimension (ritualistic). The author shows the fact that, in the historiography of the book, a new direction of research is based more and more profoundly on what Gerard Genette calls the paratext of the book; in this case, it is the marginalia of the manuscripts, especially those recording “the book deal”, situated almost every single time parallel to the text itself, having the diplomatic structure of the acts issued by the medieval chancellery and being classified as primary resources. The Corpus of this type of holographic paratexts constitutes the field of study for what the author calls paratextolography. As far as the ritualism of the act of donation is concerned, in order to restore the symbolic framework of the facts, four aspects related to the imaginary of the writing are emphasized: the symbolic/sacred value of the book, the significance of the names mentioning as “framed names” and also of the semantics of the curse as magical binding, on one hand, and on the other hand, the author presents several considerations related to the ritualism itself of the act of donating religious books, relative to the elements that ensure the ritualistic frame: the contractual nature of these annotations with their solemn formularization, the place/the occasion/ the space where the act of donation takes place and the ceremonial fact itself.
