Summary/Abstract: The article summarizes Prof. Alexandr Stich’s fruitful activities as an propagator and supporter of Czech-Slovak and Slovak-Czech studies. It recalls that since the 1960s Alexandr Stich has dedicated several essays and reviews to this theme and that his special topic of interest was the “Czechoslovak” language in older literature from Slovak territory. It describes his initiative in the 1990s to stimulate interest in this area first in Czech studies at Faculty of Arts of Charles University and then within the field of the new subject of study – Slovak studies, founded in 1994 at the same faculty. It presents Alexandr Stich as a teacher and a patron of this subject and points out also his non-academic activities, such as the membership in the Vaclav Havel and Michal Kovač Foundation, focused on the preservation and development of Czech-Slovak relations, particularly in higher education.
