Text Mining and Gender Detection within a System for Sentiement Analysis

Summary/Abstract: This paper is part of a research project aiming at making sentiment analysis of financial news articles. We assume that in order to detect the subjectivity of a text meant to be objective we have to analyze the public reaction to the news article. We reasoned that the best way to achieve this is to harvest data from social networks, namely twitter. In order to do this we first need to detect the characteristics and create profile of the opinion holder. We are interested in the gender and level of education of the opinion holder. These tasks have proven to be surprisingly hard and we have applied different techniques in order to extract the needed information in a reliable way.
