Summary/Abstract: Teaching has traditionally been viewed as a labor of professional dedication. Unfortunately, in Republic of Moldova, the social and economic realities have made teaching a stressful occupation. This study aims to explore the perceived sources of stress among Moldavian teachers working with high school students. The participants were 70 teachers aged 25 to 73 years old, most of them being females. They completed a standardized protocol with three questionnaires. It was found that nearly half of surveyed teachers report a moderate or high level of stress. Working at home to prepare for school activities, the low level of salary, classroom management problems, large volume of curriculum, and the dispositions issued by central education authorities were prevalent sources of stress. Some policy changes that can potentially reduce level of stress among teachers are discussed.
