Summary/Abstract: It’s peculiar that nations make its history such as writing its history. And both had to have a voice in the history of world civilization when they became strong. Likewise, it occurred after an extraordinary events such as struggle of presence-absence. And a new identity research of national states rise to the occasion right after from this identity research and creation. Nations are wrap cling to a new and dynamic view of history on this identity needs. In Turkish culture, this situation is no different. Kemal Ataturk, the Great Commander of the army and nation, has seen this issue one of the urgent needs of the new states and led the new understanding of history that thought for a long time, after the Turkish War of Independence. This conception of history is away from dry and heroism, it is realistic, functional and scientific. Kemal Ataturk search for the essence of Turkish history, language and culture all along, and revealed based on basic reason of Anatolian culture, instead of reasons tried in the past sometimes, like Pan-Turkism and Pan-Islamism, but couldn’t established in Turkish culture. Kemal Ataturk, looked for a way out in extraordinary circumstance that Turkish nation inhabited and contributed to built a national identity and character in the modern sense, in this understanding. Thus, he has determined the new definition of nation and national historical consciousness both war and post-war in the struggle for presence-absence. In this article, will be able to emphasize of the new nation and understanding the history to get accepted and defended by Ataturk in the Turkish War of Independence, in the national plan.
