Summary/Abstract: This text deals with phraseological units containing the words heart and soul in the following three languages: Albanian, Romanian, and Bulgarian. Phraseological units containing the lexeme heart are used in Romanian, Bulgarian and Albanian to denote strong emotions such as love, joy, hatred, grief, and misfortune. Phraseological units containing soul are used to characterize psychological and volitional human qualities, the inner world of a person. Bulgarian and Romanian synonymise soul with heart in phraseological units. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the relation of phraseology with folk culture, as well as the similarities and differences in the thinking and assumptions of Balkan peoples.
