Summary/Abstract: In the article the hypothesis of motivational synergy in creative attitude has been formulated and confirmed. This hypothesis assumes that for the development of the characteristics important for the creativity of both intrinsic and extrinsic motivational orientations are important. In a study conducted on a large sample of high school students (N = 589), creative and imitative attitudes were measured by means of the KANH questionnaire and motivational orientations where the Polish adaptation of the WPI done by Karwowski (2009a) was applied. It was found that extrinsic motivation is a significant positive predictor of conformity and algorithmic behaviour; in case of nonconformity and heuristic behaviour relationships were opposite – intrinsic motivation was positively related and extrinsic motivation was related negatively. However, a significant interactive effect was found, confirming the motivational synergy hypothesis. In case of people with a high level of intrinsic motivation the increase of extrinsic motivation influenced positively the students’ creativity. The educational implications of the results are also discussed in the paper.
