Summary/Abstract: The approach to the organization as an open system involves an analysis of the environment in which the organization carries out its activity, as well as an analysis of the relation between the organization and the environment. In order to accomplish its mission and to continue its development, the organization must respond to the challenges and cope with the risks and adverse situations induced by the environment. The performance of the organization is influenced by its capacity to blend into the environment, by the effectiveness of its actions in making the best of its opportunities, as well as by its ability to cope with the various constraints stemming from the environment, so that it may create and maintain a bidirectional value flow with the latter. Environmental changes trigger changes in the organization: they change the inputs, the objectives, the transformation process and the outputs. In its turn, the organization can also induce changes in the environment through its own actions. Human resource management processes occur in the context of the organization's internal environment, as well as in the context of its external environment and depend, to a certain extent, on the environmental factors influencing them. This paper presents certain categories of internal and external factors influencing the whole activity within the organization, with a special focus on human resource management processes.
