Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the problem of multilingualism and its impact on the practices of learning and teaching at school. An attempt was made to theorize multilingualism as a didactic phenomenon. The categories “chronotop”, “heteroglossia” and “social competence” are defined as key. Based on these categories, specific research is needed in the multicultural classroom in Bulgarian reality, with the aim of creating a new type of mastering methodology, both in native language and in several foreign languages.
