Summary/Abstract: Given the generous cultural framework of the 19th century and the dramatic changes in the political and social thinking, as announced by the Enlightenment, the intellectuals of the epoch reached an authority once held only by clergymen and nobles, fact that sometimes led to conflicts between the traditional political and religious powers and the new one. As a result of culture vulgarization and middle-class audience formation, a new type of “aristocracy” was born, that of vivid minds and unconstrained imagination. In their poems, articles or political proclamations, the romantic poets claimed a prophet-like, often titanic condition.
