Contemporary proverbs – theoretical investigations versus questionnaire study

Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the concept of “new proverbs” in modern Polish, with reference to two of the main defining characteristics of paremias, such as traditionality and currency. The article presents the results of a questionnaire conducted in a group of secondary school students and analyzes the data with special regard to the types of “new proverbs” identified. On the basis of the study the author offers general observations concerning modern proverbs in Polish.
