Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to sort out the terminology concerning the Anglo-Saxon concepts of maritime safety and maritime security, which are translated into Polish as a single term “bezpieczeństwo morskie”. The Authors indicate the acts of Polish law which include the regulations of maritime safety and maritime security. They have also analyzed the expansion of the concept of maritime security, from the traditional approach referring to the construction of ships and their equipment, through the regulation referring to a human factor, up to the regulations concerning the fight against piracy and terrorism. The Authors also show how the issues of maritime safety and marine environment protection penetrate each other.
