Summary/Abstract: In the article the changes of western wind bands' repertoire contents and a way of performing in 20th century are analyzed. This century was the period of the most radical changes and most rapid developement in the whole history of wind bands. The greatest achievement of this time was the acknowledgement of the wind band as a serious medium of musical expression. In the article this process is called the process of sublimation of the wind band. The historical aspects of sublimation are considered to be of a great importance for Lithuanian musical life: now we face the transformation of the wind bands’ model towards the western standard, therefore the acceptance of the highest examples of wind bands’ culture heritage should not be underestimated.
