Summary/Abstract: The subject of the article is the variety of genres in the contemporary wind band repertory of the 20th century. Works written in the previous century by composers from the USA and Western Europe were chosen for the investigation. The musical pieces analyzed were selected according to their significance in the repertory of contemporary wind bands as well as according to other criteria of their artistic merit. Five categories (blocks) of genres were distinguished. The compositions grouped into these blocks reveal their specificity, quantitative growth of the number of pieces in each block, their place in the Western wind band repertory. The peculiarities of the programme indications are surveyed.
