Summary/Abstract: The commentators agree that the roots of Paul’s theology lay in the Old Testament and ancient Judaism. Is it also true in Galatians where Paul deals with the relationship between freedom and service? The study of the Old Testament background of the texts in Galatians that deal with the dialectic between freedom and service confi rmed that the sacred scriptures of the Jewish people very often provide the generic matrix for Paul’s theological considerations.
