Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to analyze the dynamics of the political purge which the public administration sector underwent in 1946 – 1947, a period marked by the assault of the Communists on the legislative power and on the monarchic regime represented by the young King Michael. The process was initiated especially after 6 March 1945, once the Romanian Communist Party gained control of the government, and was directed against all sorts of public functionaries: general administrative inspectors, prefects, sub-prefects, notaries, head- praetors, praetors, mayors, deputy mayors, county and communal functionaries. Initially, the purpose was to ensure a loyal public administration for the parliamentary elections due on 19 November 1946, which the opposition (the National Peasants’ Party, the National Liberal Party, the Social Democrat Party) hoped would be democratically organized. After the elections, the purge continued with the elimination of administrative functionaries suspected of lack of allegiance to the Communist principles or opposition towards the Communist regime
