Summary/Abstract: The officer Ioan Adam was born on October 23rd 1880 at Hârja, Bacău County, Iaşi district, sun of custom functionary Vasile Adam and Ruxandra (born Popovici). He followed the Urban School from Fălticeni, next the Military School from Iaşi and the Infantry and Cavalry Military School from Bucharest. After graduation he was sent to Regiment 5 Artillery. He activated in different military units, participating at 1st World War between 1st October 1916 – 30 June 1918 and 1st November 1918 - 31st March 1921, at the fights from Dobrogea (Harabagii) and Moldova (Oituz, Caşin, Munţii Vrancei, Soveja, Petricelu etc.), Transylvania, Hungary etc. He occupied many civilian positions: Mayer assistant in Iaşi (8th January – 8th February 1938, 1941), prefect of Iaşi county (1st October 1941 – 1st May 1943), surveillance of Păcurari 3rd district (1947). After 1950 retired with his wife in Burca village, Vidra commune, Putna County. He died in 12th July 1962 being buried in Iaşi. The general received Orders and decorations, Romanian and foreigners: „Carol I” anniversary medal (military version) (1906), „Avântul Ţării” medal (1913), „Coroana României national Order (1916, 1918, 1922, 1931), „Steaua României” national Order (1918, 1927), „Sf. Anna” Russian Order (1917), „Crucea comemorativă a primului război”, with strap DOBROGEA, ARDEAL, OITUZ, CARPAŢI, MĂRĂŞTI, 1918, 1919 (1918), „Victoriei în Marele Război pentru Civilizaţie” medal (1921), „Polonia Restituta” Polish Order (1935) etc. The general Ioan Adam is one of the people to which we owe the reunion of Romania and many of the things our country have achieved so far.
