Summary/Abstract: In 1889, Prince Ferdinand became heir to the throne of Romania and at the age of 24 he married Princess Maria, the daughter of Prince Alfred, the Duke of Edinburgh - the son of Queen Victoria of Great Britain - and the great Duchess Maria Alexandrovna - the only daughter of the Tsar Alexander II of Russia. The marriage took place on 29 December 1892/10 January 1893, at the Castle of Sigmaringen, in the presence of the Emperor Wilhelm II of Germany, King Carol I (without Queen Elizabeth), the parents of Princess Mary, the mother of the prince Ferdinand - Princess Antoinetta and other invited principals and principals. The young princely family came to Romania at the end of January 1893, when Princess Maria came into contact with the rigid protocol from the King Carol I Court
