Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to identify the areas of building competitive advantage in terms of environmental instruments of the marketing segment of young consumers. The article is a research of buying behaviour of young consumers. On the basis of the results of research and literature, the author in her article described the profile of the young consumer (representative of Generation Y), selected items of buying behaviour, and opinion about the commercial infrastructure of retail trade and services. Based on the synthesis of the article results the author has set guidelines for action in the field of marketing and effective communication with the customer of Generation Y.
