Summary/Abstract: An aim of the study is an attempt to estimate consumption and the scale of wastage of bread in Polish households. The survey was carried out in seven households in the town with less than 50 thou. inhabitants, in a rural household, and in households in the town above 200 thou. inhabitants as a case study. An analysis covered the volume of bought and not consumed bread in a month. The biggest volumes of bread were thrown away in households located in the town with more than 200 thou. inhabitants, while the least in households in the town below 50 thou. inhabitants. Not consumed bread in the rural household was destined for forage for animals. Expenses incurred on a purchase of bread were diversified depending on the place of residence. The carried out surveys showed that rural households and those in small localities utilise non-consumed bread, what allows for reduction of bread wastage.
