The role of insurance in risk management in health care facilities

Summary/Abstract: Medical care providers, including NHF contract for the provision of health services, are obliged to conclude liability insurance. This obligation is governed by Decree of the Minister of Finance dated 28 December 2007. This regulation defines the range and the minimum required amount of insurance (warranty). The aim of the article is to present the role of insurance in risk management in health care facilities and the route of selection of insurance offers in these institutions. The analysis is based on data from clinical hospitals in Łódź. Due to the nature of the specific risk in health care facilities, appropriately designed risk management program (including the proper scope of the insurance offer) appears to be necessary to improve the safety in these organizations.
