Summary/Abstract: An aim of considerations is to present the selected objective and subjective determinants of the quality of life of elder people. The article is of the research nature. An object of the analysis is, inter alia, an overall assessment of satisfaction with life as well as various aspects thereof and the declared level of happiness. The article was prepared on the basis of findings of the European Quality of Life Surveys. In the research proceedings, there were also used the selected items of the literature available in the form of books and articles. The results of the carried out analyses indicate that individuals from the group 50+ are less satisfied with their life than younger people; hence they also declare lower sense of happiness. Among various aspects of life, elder people are the most satisfied with their family life and housing conditions. On the other hand, the low level of satisfaction refers to their health condition and assessment of the economic situation of the country. The analysed age group is also characterised by quite an often occurrence of negative emotions and relatively seldom of positive ones. Among many reasons for such feelings, of a substantial importance are economic determinants producing the elderly problems with covering of all current expenses with the incomes they receive, what causes anxiety and fear of their financial security
