Idea Fair Trade – Fair Consumption Behaviours as a Form of Development id for the Global South Countries

Summary/Abstract: According to the UN data, for 1/5 of the world’s population the daily amount for survival is less than 1.25 US dollars. More than 1/4 of inhabitants of underdeveloped countries live in extreme poverty. At the same time, according to the data of Oxfam of 2010, 97% of profits from turnover reach wealthy countries. In order to counteract the disproportion between rich and poor countries, there has been established an alternative for conventional trade – the grassroots international social movement called Fair Trade which in its actions pursuits achievement sustainable development supporting, at the same time, producers and manufacturers in the global South countries to enable them independently earn and, owing to that, provide dignified life for themselves and their families. An aim of considerations is to present the idea of Fair Trade and the way of its functioning as well as the level of development in Europe and across the world. In her article, the author used the recent reports of international organisations acting for the Fair Trade movement, inter alia, the certificating organisation, Fairtrade International, and the World Fair Trade Organization.
