Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the topic of multiculturalism and tolerance from the perspective of some major social studies. In the first part of the article, we present theoretical considerations on global society and the role of ethnic culture in the development of the European Union. In addition, we present a series of functions of public space, from the viewpoint of its influence on social development. Analytically, by using the data provided by the European Commission, the studies known as the European Social Survey, in this article we find a series of considerations and interpretations on Romanians’ tolerance and intolerance in connection with various multicultural groups and in relation to some social problems. The conclusions lead us to understanding the perspective of Romanian society in the construction of the European social space and as opening towards globalization and European values.
