Summary/Abstract: Purpose – Analysis of the legal standards and requirements on banking sector in the field of internalcontrol mechanisms since the 1997. The dynamic development of financial markets and globalizationhave contributed in recent decades to the promotion of services and internationalization of banks, resultingin a rise of the number of new risks faced by banks and other financial institutions. Internal control is a keyelement of the safety of the banks and provides standards resulting in minimizing all types of risks to whichthey are exposed.Design/methodology/approach – Retrospective analysis of legislation since 1997. It was based mainly on themethods: observation, analysis and logical design.Findings – Studies have shown that the structure of regulation on internal control is very complex. It hassources in the legal acts of the highest order (the Act) and non-higher order (regulations, resolutions, recommendations).Originality/value – This study is part of a broader study on security at financial sector in terms of both financialinstitutions and their clients.
