Summary/Abstract: Drawing on the Stanford Literary Lab’s six-year history, Moretti seeks to characterize the work carried out in a contemporary literary laboratory. He discusses such features as group dynamics, new types of research publications (notebooks, algorithms), tensions between concepts and empirical data and the corroboration of commonly accepted suppositions. Moretti also describes theoretical and methodological inspirations: formalism and structuralism, epistemology of the natural sciences, and Bourdieu.
