Summary/Abstract: The rapid development of the information society; the of media, telecommunications and hi-tech; digitisation of radio and TV provide new, unexpected opportunities for communication, mutual acquaintance and creation of a new TV area uniting the European nations, featuring their cultural diversity and removing the barriers of prejudice that have been erected for centuries now. The major issue facing the European Commission, the Council of the European Union and the Council of Europe lies in how well various European nations happen to know each other and perceive their cultural diversity, different traditions and customs, especially in the light of the huge numbers of migrants flooding into Europe. To a very small extent perhaps, as the EU failed to set panEuropean TV broadcasting of its own, and in an environment that was called ’information society’ some three decades ago too. In the light of the natural desire of all European countries and nations to get to know each other better and build together shared values, lacking a common pan-European TV channel apparently poses a challenge to the consolidation of the EU countries towards common European cultural and all other values.
