Summary/Abstract: The Monumental Church of Christ’s Resurrection should not be regarded as an ordinary house of prayer since it has become a symbol of statehood for the entire Lithuanian nation. (There are two churches under the title of Christ’s Resurrection. Therefore one church is called the big one while another church is referred to as the small one.) 70 years passed from 1934, when the cornerstone of the church was sanctified and brought to Lithuania from the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, to 2004, 24th December, when the shrine was at last solemnly consecrated. This building symbolically expresses the gratitude of Lithuanian people to God for the national rebirth and the independence of their homeland after many years of struggle. However, numerous trials of fate and painful events had to be endured during these dramatic decades. In order to understand the overall situation in more depth, it is necessary to remember the past, speak about the present and take a short glimpse into the future
