Museum education – education for active participation in culture

Summary/Abstract: The author presents, on the basis of literature review, educational activities in museums addressed to children and youth as well as to various groups of adults and older people. In the context of pedagogy of culture, culture and cultural education, aesthetic education, art education, historical education, the author presents museum as an important area of educational research, which is relatively little explored by pedagogical community in Poland. Noting the dynamic development of museums in Poland in the last decade, on the basis of exemplary activities in museums and literature, the author highlights museum as actual and important space for education for active participation in culture. She draws attention to the need to undertake research on museum education by pedagogues and teachers in active collaboration with museum experts and cultural animators.
