Summary/Abstract: This paper focuses on occupational surnames. Unlike German and English research Lithuanian onomastics has not given attention to occupational surnames as a name class of its own hitherto. The basis for the research results presented here is a Lithuanian-Prussian source from the beginning of the 18th century. From this source all occupational surnames are excerpted and classified according to derivational-morphological and semantic principles. Furthermore the frequence of some occupational surnames and their derivations are determined, which gives information about the distribution of some occupations within the Lithuanian speaking community. In the end of this paper problems with classifying occupational surnames are discussed.
