Summary/Abstract: Durazzo and the Republic of Ragusa were among the most ancient trade routes and “the only” transit points during the modem period for the inter- Balkan trade with the Republic of Venice. The close trade relations between Albania and the Republic of Ragusa flourished on account of the significant contribution of the Ragusan traders’ settlements in medieval times in various cities of Albania such as: Scutari (Shkodra), Durazzo(Durrës), Valona (Vlora), Prisren (Prizren), that were still present in the turn of the XVII Century and the beginning of the XVIII Century in the cities of Ipek (Peja), Scopje (Shkup) and the area of Novipazar. On the other hand, even the Albanian diaspora at the Republic of Ragusa that held high offices, had in the hands the grain trade.
