Summary/Abstract: This is a discussion of science-iction stories in Czech literature for children and young adults published in the last twenty years, in which the child hero’s inner world (his or her unconscious or subconscious) provides the setting for an adventurous plot. In analyses of the prose iction of Magdaléna Platzová (b. 1972), Eva Prchalová (b. 1974), Vendula Borůvková (b. 1977), and Marka Míková (born Marie Horáková, 1959), the author demonstrates the means by which the writers build their many layers of meaning and how and where they shift the boundaries of the ordinary. She also considers the formative function and reception potential of these works.
