Summary/Abstract: The sculpture has an area which has been able to survive for ages in Turkish culture and social order. When the understanding of sculpture which puts forward various proposals of meaning, form and phenomenon to be evaluated based on the image of woman, it can sometimes be just a mother, or an angel, or sky, or earth, sometimes a bird for good luck (Hüma), a fire soul, or the angel of death. The woman is at the same time the symbol of fertility, abundance and birth, as it is in most cultures. The woman founding the life and providing its permanence also bears a dualist approach with her power bringing danger and evil besides her such positive sides as goodness and beauty. The image of woman in plastic terms can sometimes be a vertical Stone, or a figurine, or a line, and sometimes a three-sliced crown. However, though sculpture as a language of expression could not come forward during some periods, the image of woman has always been a source of inspiration in Turkish sculpture. Throughout this paper, the rich possibilities of meaning and form in Turkish sculpture will be presented along with its deficiencies by bringing woman and sculpture together. It will be made an evaluation by correlating Obelisk and stone balbals in social order and culture of Early Turkish art and the phenomenon of Umay. The current effects of this correlation will be discussed in the conclusion.
